Born and raised in Mexico, Anel Schmidt is an actress whose work in theater and film has spanned across Mexico and the United States. She holds a B.A. in Theater from Universidad de Sonora and received a Best Actress Award in 2000 for El Monje. Tucson audiences may recognize her from Rent, In the Heights, Rock of Ages, Evita, and Disney’s Descendants, as well as her longtime work with Stories That Soar. Anel is honored to portray Gloria Fajardo in On Your Feet!, a role that celebrates her Latin roots and connection to Gloria Estefan’s music.
