Audience Code of Conduct
(Updated March 25, 2025)
Arts Express Theatre (AET) is committed to providing a safe, professional and fun environment for all who are involved in our productions. As our audience, you become part of a symbiotic community with the cast members, crew and staff. We take the beauty and fragility of this relationship seriously and promise you a healthy environment that is rooted in individual responsibility and respect.
In return, we expect that you will help our theatre be “an oasis of civility” where all feel welcomed and supported. Thus, we strictly prohibit any conduct on the part of audience members that results in physical, emotional, or material harm towards others. Violations of this code will first result in a warning from the House Manager or other AET staff. Continued behavior may result in removal from the AET facility, with support from Park Place Security or the Tucson Police Department if necessary.
Our Audience Code of Conduct includes, but is not limited, to the following behaviors:
- No controlled substances, tobacco products (including vaping) or firearms are allowed in the theatre or rehearsal spaces at any time. While alcoholic beverages may be on sale in the lobby audience, members should drink responsibly. If an impaired guest requires intervention by AET staff, it will be handled in a prompt and safe manner.
- No outside food or beverages are allowed. Concessions are available in the lobby by donation.
- Only service animals are permitted in AET facilities during performances.
- Audience members may sit only at their assigned table, according to the records of the box office.
- Please arrive in a timely manner so that the show is not delayed. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the staff.
- Guests must comply with staff request regarding operations and emergency response procedures.
- Although the AET lobby is a public place, ticketed audience members or unticketed guests in the lobby may not disrupt or interfere with a performance or event in any way.
- No phone calls are allowed during a performance. Cell phones should be set in a silent mode and put away so that texting or notifications do not disturb nearby audience members.
- Audio or video recording during a performance is not allowed and is strictly prohibited by the AET contract with the licensing company.
- No flash photography is permitted during a performance. Still photography is allowed as long as it does not disrupt other audience members.
- Use of phones or tablets to play games during a performance is not permitted, even if earphones are used.
- Verbal abuse, threats, slurs or other offensive remarks toward cast, crew or staff members or toward other audience members will not be tolerated.
- Theatre is often written to provoke thought and inspire reflection. All performances include a Content Guide that highlights themes or language that might be found to be offensive or inappropriate by some. This information is available on the AET website and should be reviewed prior to attending a performance. If you find an AET production makes you uncomfortable, we encourage you to stay and reflect on the societal message, or to exit the theatre quietly.
